My Why

Anyone that knows me can tell you, I knew I wanted to be an interior designer since I was 13. However, before that I wanted to be a fashion designer (as all 12 year old girls do). One day, while discussing my future career aspirations with my grandma, she said to me “you don’t want to be a fashion designer, you should be an interior designer instead”. At the time I had no idea such a wonderful career even existed but from that point on I was hooked (thanks for the tip Grandma).

Me and my brother as adorable children.

For as long as I can remember I was redecorating my and my friends bedrooms. My 13 year old self loved a good sleepover turned bedroom makeover. Truth be told I still do! I painted my bedroom bubble gum pink then mauve purple and I constantly was moving furniture around.

Unfortunately to my husbands dismay not much has changed. While I no longer have purple and pink walls, our home is a constant makeover project. As soon as I repaint one room I’m on to the next one. Then when I finally finish painting the entire house, I start all over. In high school I took on project after project to get my design fix. I joined FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) and competed in various interior design competitions. Needless to say it was no surprise when I decided to go to Meredith College to study interior design.

After Meredith I began my career in the furniture industry, even designing custom closets for a year. After the birth of our first daughter, I decided to pursue another dream career of mine, becoming a stay at home Mom. I love being home with my daughters but the design bug has never left me. After an encouraging push from my husband I decided to open my own interior design business. I am so glad I did!

While I was at Meredith I was asked “why do I want to be an interior designer”? At the time I gave a generic answer of my love for design blah blah blah. But honestly it is really so much more than that. I am an interior designer because I love to help people and solve problems. From problems of not knowing what color to paint the walls to moving an elderly parent in and helping them feel safe and at home, I know this is what I am meant to do. I can’t wait to give you a glimpse in on my journey as I establish my business and help others solve their design challenges.
